MOOD BOARD 101

A Mood board is a starting point for the decorating design process. It helps us organize our minds and ideas and visualize our first views of how the space will feel and look. It is anything that inspires you… images, illustrations, colors, furniture, textures, patterns, throw pillows, lamps or absolutely anything that inspires you for this space. When you create a mood board it helps you stay focused on your desired look. I have a video below on how EASY it truly is to create one.

TYPES OF MOOD BOARDS?

  1. PHYSICAL BOARD- You can print images online or you can cut pictures out of a magazine and glue them on a poster board or sheet of paper.
  2. DIGITAL MOOD BOARD- Use collage apps- canva app is my personal favorite (I just find it user friendly). The advantage to the digital board is that you can change it easier if needed and bonus feature you can share your mood board with others and online.

HOW TO CREATE A DIGITAL MOOD BOARD? (WATCH VIDEO BELOW)

  1. Gather images that inspire you for your space. Great places are etsy, google images, Pinterest & target. I like to use images from things I might intend to buy as well. THE IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER.. when saving or screen shooting the image… MAKE SURE.. you try to find pictures with white back grounds. If you scroll over a lot of times they will have an options where its just the item alone and not styled. That way … you can easily remove the background. When there is a busy background .. it gets confused which item is the primary focus.
  2. Open you photo collage app (I use canva).
  3. When I create something in canvas I always use the instagram post size screen. Click that. Then click BLANK.
  4. First, I start with the background.. I like to have the back ground as the color of the walls or a wall paper or accent wall I am thinking of using.
  5. Then you start adding your furniture pieces. I like to next add rugs or big furniture pieces.
  6. Then you just continue to add pieces and move them around on the collage app to their desired places on the board.
  7. NOWWWW… little secret hack to removing the background.. click on the image. Click Effects. Then click background remover. Now you will have crisp clean no background images!
