31 Nights of Halloween Magic: Movies, DIYs, and Spooky Fun
October is finally here, which means itโs time to fully embrace spooky season! Whether your idea of the perfect Halloween night is cozying up on the couch with nostalgic movies, hosting a themed dinner with creepy-cute recipes, or diving into DIY projects that spark your creativity, this season is all about celebrating the fun, the nostalgia, and the magic of fall.
In this post, Iโm breaking down 31 nights of movies, sharing some of my favorite DIY projects and recipes, and giving you tons of inspiration to make your October feel festive from start to finish.

๐ฝ๏ธ 31 Nights of Nostalgic Halloween Classics
If you grew up in the 80s, 90s, or 2000s, Halloween probably brings back a wave of cozy memories โ slumber parties with scary movies, VHS tapes of Hocus Pocus worn thin, or that first time you dared to watch The Ring with your friends. To bring back all those feelings, I created the 31 Days of Nostalgic Halloween Classics list.
Here are just a few highlights:
โข Hocus Pocus โ The ultimate Halloween comfort movie.
โข Practical Magic โ Cozy witch vibes with the best late 90s fashion.
โข Scream โ Slasher meets teen drama in a film that redefined horror.
โข The Ring โ If you saw this in the early 2000s, you know it kept you up at night.
โข Goosebumps โ A little spooky, a lot nostalgic.
โข The Lost Boys โ Vampires, small-town vibes, and 80s music โ whatโs not to love?

๐งโโ๏ธ 31 Nights of Spooky & Sweet (Kidsโ Edition)
Halloween doesnโt have to be all slashers and gore โ sometimes the sweetest part of the season is watching family-friendly classics with your kids (or even by yourself for a cozy throwback).
Some of my top picks for kids and families include:
โข Casper โ The friendliest ghost of them all.
โข Halloweentown โ Peak Disney Channel nostalgia.
โข Coraline โ Creepy, quirky, and beautifully animated.
โข Toy Story of Terror โ A short but sweet favorite.
โข Ernest Scared Stupid โ Campy and perfect for kids AND adults.
This list makes it easy to plan a family movie night every evening in October. Pair it with some popcorn, Halloween brookies [RECIPE HERE], and cozy blankets, and youโve got memories in the making.

๐ท๏ธ 31 Nights of Halloween (Scary Movie Edition)
For the true horror fans, I couldnโt resist putting together a scarier countdown too. These are the box-office hits and cult favorites that keep Halloween chilling:
โข Halloween (1978) โ The slasher that started it all.
โข Friday the 13th โ Camp Crystal Lake forever.
โข The Conjuring โ A modern ghost story staple.
โข It โ Pennywise, need I say more?
โข Hereditary โ Disturbing in all the right ways.
โข Scream (2022) โ Proof the franchise still has life.
This list is perfect for late-night marathons with friends โ just donโt forget the candy corn and maybe a pumpkin beer or two.

๐ช Spooky Sweet Treats: Halloween Brookies [FULL RECIPE HERE]
No movie night is complete without snacks. And nothing screams October like these Halloween Brookies โ a layered brownie and Oreo dessert thatโs ridiculously easy to make but looks like you put in major effort.
How to make them:
1. Prepare a box of brownie mix according to directions.
2. Pour half into a greased baking dish.
3. Layer Oreos (Halloween orange crรจme if you can find them!).
4. Top with the rest of the brownie mix.
5. Bake, cool, and slice into squares.
๐ Bonus tip: Drizzle with melted orange candy melts and sprinkle with festive sprinkles for extra flair.

๐จ DIY: Nostalgic Halloween Nutcracker
One of my favorite projects this season was painting a nutcracker into a nostalgic Halloween character. Instead of the traditional Christmas colors, I used shades of orange, black, and purple to transform a nutcracker into something spooky yet whimsical.
This DIY is a show-stopper for mantels, entryway tables, or even as part of a centerpiece. Itโs also a project you can do while half-watching a movie from your list (win-win!).

๐ Dinner and a Scare: Halloween Pizza Pumpkins & Skulls [FULL RECIPE HERE]
Want to turn dinner into part of the fun? I made Halloween pizzas shaped like pumpkins and skulls, and they were such a hit.
How to make them:
โข Use pre-made pizza dough or crescent roll dough.
โข Shape into pumpkin rounds or use a skull-shaped pan.
โข Fill with marinara, mozzarella, and your toppings of choice.
โข Add cut-out pepperoni โfacesโ for extra Halloween fun.
These make the perfect dinner for movie marathons or Halloween parties โ kid-approved and Instagram-worthy.
๐ก How to Host the Ultimate Spooky Season Movie Night
To tie it all together, here are my tips for creating an unforgettable Halloween movie night:
1. Pick a Theme:
Choose one of the 31-day lists (Nostalgic, Kids, or Horror) and stick to it for the evening.
2. Set the Mood:
Candles, string lights, and maybe even a fog machine if youโre extra.
3. DIY Snacks:
Brookies, skull pizzas, and popcorn with candy corn mixed in.
4. Craft Break:
Set out supplies for painting pumpkins, nutcrackers, or even simple ghost garlands while the movie plays.
5. Invite the Fun:
Have guests come in pajamas or costumes to make it even more festive.
โจ Final Thoughts
Halloween is about so much more than October 31st โ itโs about building little moments of joy, nostalgia, and creativity all month long. Whether youโre watching Hocus Pocus with the kids, daring your friends to rewatch The Ring, or whipping up Oreo brookies in the kitchen, this season is all about celebrating in your own way.
So grab a blanket, pick a movie from one of the lists, and get ready for 31 days of spooky, sweet, and scary fun.
