DIY Crayon Pencil Cup- The PERFECT Teacher Appreciation Gift
If you have been following for a hot minute you know my love for teachers, educators and school staff. During the school year I love to show them appreciation during each holiday, but Teacher Appreciation Week is my favorite time to get creative. Making something fun for the teachers as a token of our appreciation just puts that personalized touch into the gift. For one of our Teacher Appreciation gifts this year I made the cutest DIY CRAYON PENCIL CUP! I like to create functional things for teacher gifts that they can continue to use throughout the years.
Teacher appreciation is always the first full week in May. This year (2023) Teacher Appreciation is the week of May 8-12, 2023. I wanted to create a fun crayon pencil cup that they could use for years to come. I created two different versions of this DIY Crayon Pencil Cup. For the first version I used a basic plastic cup from Target to make a round pencil cup. For the second version I found a square pencil cup, also at Target, with dividers to provide more organization for different types of pens and pencils. I thought these two sizes would be PERFECT for a teacher’s desk! I added a ribbon around the final product for a little splash of cuteness and to help hold the crayons in place. If you want to add a little more to this gift you could put additional gifts inside the cup.
If you struggle with buying gifts for your child’s teacher take a look at my previous post with a printable list to send to your teacher to get their favorite things. [TEACHER GIFT GUIDE] Having your teacher fill out this form with their favorite things will ensure the easiest gift giving all year.
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
- CUP- OPTIONS I USED: BLACK MESH & PLASTIC CUP– you want to find something that is straight up and down and not really angled. It helps with the placement of the crayons.
- CRAYONS
- HOT GLUE GUN– my personal favorite linked & love that it’s cordless. CORDED OPTION HERE
- HOT GLUE STICKS
- RIBBON- ruler ribbon & purple ribbon
- EXTRA-fun gift tag. I found these on Amazon.
- And fill free to fill the cups up with your teachers favorites. I added some FLAIR TIP PENS & AMAZON GIFT CARD and SOME SCISSORS.
HOW TO:
- Grab your supplies listed above.
- Determine the pattern of the crayons before glueing to speed up the process. I like to use the easy “ROYGBIV” pattern: Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.
- Hot glue the crayons directly onto the cup.
- Tie a ribbon around the crayons. Any color will work since you have all the colors of the rainbow. Or if you used a different pattern, choose a ribbon color to provide any pop of color.
- Add your child’s name and the class year (example 2022-23) at the bottom so the teacher will always remember who the gift was from in the years to come.
- FUN EXTRA: You could add some things inside the cup, like a gift card, flair pens, hand sanitizer, or their favorite snack.
