How to Create a Halloween Breakfast Board

Putting together a breakfast board is all about combining fun, spooky treats with healthy options like fruit for balance. Hereโ€™s how I built mine:

1. Monster Donuts

These donuts are the stars of the show! I used regular glazed donuts from H-E-B then turned them into spooky monster faces using just a few simple additions:

โ€ข Candy Eyes: These edible eyes can be found at most grocery or craft stores. Simply press them into the donuts to create fun, googly-eyed monsters.

โ€ข Vampire Teeth: I took small, plastic vampire teeth and placed them in the donut holes to make it look like the donuts had mouths. These are great for adding a spooky, yet playful touch.

2. Pumpkin Oranges

Next, I took some Cuties (small, easy-to-peel oranges) and gave them a pumpkin makeover:

โ€ข Peel the Oranges: Start by peeling the entire orange, leaving it whole.

โ€ข Add the Stem: Cut small pieces of celery and stick them in the top of the peeled orange to create a โ€œstem.โ€ The result looks just like a mini pumpkin!

3. Ghost Pancakes:

I used my Dash Waffle Maker to create little ghost-shaped waffles to add a little spookiness:

โ€ข Waffle or Pancake Batter: You can use your favorite waffle or pancake batter recipe. Pour it into the waffle maker and out comes adorable ghost-shaped treats.

โ€ข Add Details: You can dust them with powdered sugar, or drizzle some syrup over them to make them extra yummy!

4. Adding Fruits

For some fresh and healthy elements, I added a variety of fruits to the board:

โ€ข Sliced apples (you can dip these in peanut butter for a fun twist)

โ€ข Strawberries

โ€ข Blackberries or blueberries (to give the board a darker, spooky feel)

How to Arrange the Board

There are no rules when it comes to arranging your Halloween breakfast board,However here’s a few tips to make it visually appealing:

โ€ข Start with Larger Items:ย Place your donuts, waffles, and oranges around the board first because they take up the most space.

โ€ข Fill in with Fruits:ย Add smaller fruits like berries and apple slices to fill in the gaps so the board looks full.

โ€ข Mix & Match: Spread out the different colors and shapes making the board look balanced as well as visually interesting.

Tips for Customizing Your Breakfast Board

Here’s a few ideas you can easily make this Halloween breakfast board your own by swapping in some of your favorite breakfast foods:

โ€ข Mini Muffins: Use pumpkin or blueberry mini muffins for more variety.

โ€ข Yogurt & Granola:ย For a healthier option serve small bowls of yogurt topped with granola.

โ€ข Bagels & Cream Cheese:ย Add bagels with a smear of cream cheese, and use the candy eyes to turn them into bagel monsters!

Why a Halloween Breakfast Board is Perfect for Busy Mornings

One of the best things about a breakfast board is how easy it is to throw together. If youโ€™re hosting a Halloween morning get-together or just want to make your familyโ€™s breakfast extra special, this board takes minimal time and effort. You can even prep some of the items, like peeling the oranges or baking the pancakes ahead of time.

I have my kids get involved by letting them help decorate the donuts and arranging the fruit. They love being a part of the spooky fun.

โ€ข Spider Web Tablecloth: Set the board on a spooky spider web tablecloth or runner for a fun, themed look.

โ€ข Candles & Lights: Flickering candles or string lights around the board are a great way to set the spooky mood.
